Gifts for Energetic Boys

My favourite two-year-old boy has lots of energy, and endless curiosity. When picking presents for him, I look for toys and books that he'll enjoy, but won't drive his Mom crazy!

Here are a few of the gifts from his second birthday -- and he loves them all.

If you're looking for gifts for a slightly older boy, please visit my hub on gifts for 3 year old boys: 10 Best Gifts for Three Year Old Boys

For even more gift ideas for older boys, take a look at the suggestions in this hub: 10 Best Gifts for Four Year Old Boys

Tricycle and Helmet

If you have it in your budget, you can buy a new tricycle, in a size that fits your 2-year-old. Or, maybe you can find one at a yard sale, or a friend's hand-me-down.

Be sure to get a helmet too, even with a tricycle. My little guy loves the Cars movie, and anything related to it, so this helmet is perfect.

Wooden Blocks

Blocks are great for the imagination, and these come in a little wagon, which adds to the fun. The wagon is the perfect place to store the blocks when he's finished playing.

He can also pile some of his other toys into the wagon, and take them for a ride!

Bubbles

Bubbles are lots of fun outdoors, and occasionally indoors too. They cheer up the kids, and adults have a hard time resisting the fun too.

You can get a simple bubble set with a bottle of bubble liquid, and a couple of bubble wands. Or, buy a kit with a variety of bubble wands and pipes, and a big bottle of bubble liquid.

Tool Belt

There's always something that needs to be fixed, or taken apart, and this tool belt provides hours of entertainment. My little handyman loves both Bob the Builder, and Handy Manny, so he can pretend to be either one of his hero handymen, with these cool tools. They’re plastic, so nothing gets damaged from the hammering or adjusting!

Quiet Time Books

Every busy boy needs a bit of quiet time (and so does his Mom). Some weeks, we read the same books, again and again. Then we get tired of those (whew!) and find something different on the bookshelf.

A visit to the library can help us find new books too – without spending any money! Here are a few of our favorites.

Videos for a Rainy Day

Like books, movies help provide a bit of quiet time for boys, and for their mom and dad. The Toy Story movies are fun for the whole family, with wonderful animation that adults will appreciate, and entertaining characters, that will delight a young boy.

The Cars movie is the all time favorite for my little guy, and distracted him while he recuperated from a tonsillectomy. There’s a lot of humor, and plenty of action, and one of the cars (Doc Hudson) is voiced by Paul Newman.

Winnie the Pooh is well loved too, because it is an enjoyable movie that's gentle and fun. If you’re ever having a bad day, a few minutes with Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and friends will make it a bit better.

Hours of Fun With Cars

My little guy can spend hours playing with cars and trucks. They come in all sizes and price ranges, so you can find something that suits your toddler, and your budget.

Just be sure to read the package information, or web site description, and select something that's safe for a 2 year old. Lots of vehicles have small parts, and are only appropriate for older children.
